Honors!<=
u> &=
nbsp; The Unit has earned the
Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors. We have earned Distinguished U=
nit
five out of the last six years and Academic Honors for the last three y=
ears
straight. Distinguished U=
nit is
earned when a majority of the cadets are active in the community, do we=
ll
at the Annual Military Inspection (A.M.I.), meet all Unit goals,
participate actively in Area 3 events (drill meets, leadership camps, e=
tc)
and conduct an orientation trip (visit a Navy or Marine Corp facility
outside the immediate area).
Academic Honors is when cadets place in the top five percent in =
the
Nation on the Secretary of the Navy’s Academic exam. Only 5% of the Units in Area 3=
earn
Distinguished Unit so it is with great pride we accept this honor.

Awards Ceremony &n=
bsp;
With
the end of another school year comes the ceremonial change of command
between one senior staff to the next and the awards ceremony celebrati=

accomplishments of the cadets.
On May 9, 2007, JROTC is holding a mandatory awards ceremony for
all cadets. Practice for=
key
personal unless otherwise instructed is after school until 1630 on May
7. There is a mandatory
practice on May 8 for all cadets after school until 1630. The award ceremony starts at =
1900
but the cadets must arrive 1 hour prior (1800) for a short run-through=
and
to receive their new ranks. The
ceremony will consist of senior ranking awards, the ceremonial change =
of
command and the pass and review.
There will be many guests of honor passing out various special
awards to cadets. Rememb=
er
this is mandatory for all cadets, and will be a major grade in their N=
aval
Science class.
Basic
Leadership Training and Leadership Academy &n=
bsp;
Basic Leadership Training (BLT) and Leadership
Academy (LA) are coming up. BLT
is from June 10 - 17. LA =
is
from June 17 - 23. At BLT=
, the
cadets will learn leadership skills while orienteering, hiking, air rif=
le
shooting, and boat handling.
Final evaluation is based platoon inspection and drill
competition. BLT is the
prerequisite for LA. Like=
BLT,
LA is physically demanding but it is much more. There is more class work on
leadership styles and more opportunities to practice leadership
skills. In addition, each=
cadet
will learn how to sail an actual sailing craft in Lake Michigan. If you are going to BLT, you w=
ill
return with many ribbons only available at BLT. If you pass the Leadership aca=

you will have the honor of wearing the coveted silver cord, knowing you=
